When patients present to the emergency department or urgent care with signs suggestive of acute leukemia, prompt diagnostic evaluation and initiation of therapy are imperative, as the disease may progress rapidly and is associated with high morbidity and mortality if not treated right away. Given the urgency and complexity of care required for this patient population, City of Hope® Cancer Center, located midway between Milwaukee and Chicago, has established a streamlined process to expedite transfer to our hospital and ensure immediate access to specialized treatment.
If you suspect acute leukemia, these are the steps to initiate the process:
Transfers may be requested and arranged from emergency rooms, as well as hospitals or provider practice offices. Any insurance barriers are addressed in real time by our team of experts.
