Leading the Way in Myeloma Care

Diagnosing and treating complex blood disorders like multiple myeloma requires deep knowledge of the disease and a highly personalized approach to care. At City of Hope® Duarte, our multiple myeloma team offers patients in Southern California access to both world-renowned blood cancer experts and some of the latest innovations in treating hematologic malignancies like myeloma. In 2025-26, U.S. News & World Report named City of Hope’s flagship hospital in Duarte among the top “best hospitals” for cancer — the 19th consecutive year on this list — and recognized our multiple myeloma program as “high performing” in the treatment of all types of the disease.

Patients referred to City of Hope also benefit from our bone marrow and stem cell transplantation program — one of the largest and most successful in the country — and our pioneering use of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy for patients with a range of hematologic disorders, including relapsed myeloma. Our team of specialists is also directly involved with researching and developing innovative therapies that improve both treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients with conditions like multiple myeloma.

Our Approach to Care

The myeloma program at City of Hope brings together nationally recognized clinical expertise, translational research aimed at developing breakthrough treatments and excellent continuity of care for patients across Southern California.

Patients referred to City of Hope for multiple myeloma treatment benefit from:

  • Multidisciplinary care delivered by a team of blood cancer experts with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating and researching new therapies for myeloma
  • Our expertise in treating and managing amyloidosis, a serious condition that develops in up to 15% of patients with myeloma. Amyloidosis patients are eligible for care via our multidisciplinary amyloidosis program - offering care from a myeloma specialist, cardiologist, and diagnostic exams in one visit.
  • Support at 29 locations across Southern California, including our National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center near Los Angeles and the Lennar Foundation Cancer Center in Orange County
  • City of Hope’s stem cell transplantation program, is one of the largest and most successful in the country and has performed over 20,000 stem cell transplants for a variety of diseases
  • Our leading-edge cellular immunotherapy program, which has to date treated more than 1,800 patients, including CAR T cell therapy
  • Outpatient care for patients receiving stem cell or CAR T cell therapies, offering patients the opportunity to receive treatment and stay at our on-campus hotel in Duarte, CA, so they can be with loved ones while undergoing active treatment
  • Access to the Judy and Bernard Briskin Center for Multiple Myeloma Research, which focuses on research into the use of innovative therapies such as bispecific and trispecific antibodies, radioimmunotherapy and CAR T cell-enhancing medications
