City of Hope

Atlanta-Area Code Acute Leukemia™

FROM EMERGENCY CARE TO SPECIALIZED ONCOLOGY TREATMENT WITHIN 24 HOURS

About Our Program

When patients present to the emergency department or urgent care with signs suggestive of acute leukemia, prompt diagnostic evaluation and initiation of therapy are imperative, as the disease may progress rapidly and is associated with high morbidity and mortality if not treated right away. Given the urgency and complexity of care required for this patient population, City of Hope® Cancer Center Atlanta, located in Newnan, GA, has established a streamlined process to expedite transfer to our hospital and ensure immediate access to specialized treatment.

How the One-Call Transfer Process Works

If you suspect acute leukemia, these are the steps to initiate the process:

  1. You’ll call (770) 400-7170 to initiate a rapid transfer.
  2. An immediate peer-to-peer call will be arranged between you and a City of Hope clinician to discuss clinical observations and the best way to stabilize the patient for transfer.
  3. The patient will be transferred via ambulance to City of Hope.

Transfers may be requested and arranged from emergency rooms, as well as hospitals or provider practice offices. Any insurance barriers are addressed in real time by our team of experts.
